Downtown Chinatown. I find it ridiculous that a country such as Singapore, with 80% of its population being Chinese, has a Chinatown. Shouldn't it just be called "town"? Then this place is always decorated with red lanterns zigzagging above the street, just like how every Chinatown appears in all the movies. As a Chinese, I must say, folks, NO, we DON’T have lanterns in our streets all year long; NO, NOT everybody is Kung Fu fighting; and NO, NOT everybody speaks with a Cantonese accent, as often ridiculed by Russel Peters. Although you might want to see Russel Peters performing if you haven't, he's funny.
The only real differences that Chinatown has compared to the rest of the "towntown" area, are that it has an awful lot of overpriced souvenir stores, and it is mainly inhabited by Cantonese Chinese. These, together with the lanterns, really doesn't paint a picture too different from your everyday Hollywood stereotype.
